Elemental Correspondences: Fire And Water

Introduction

With in Paganism/Wicca or any other Pagan like path we have the quarters and the elements. Some only look at four of the elements while others include all five. They are Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and the fifth one is Spirit. They all have Magical Correspondences just like crystals and even herbs. In this Hub we will take a look at what each Element is for.

Fire

The element Fire is best known to be the element of the South. Fire is of a masculine like gender and its age is known as youth. There are four seasons that relate to the elements, the season of fire is Summer. And just like seasons, Fire also corresponds to time. The time for fire is Noon.

The elements also have a connection with the divination tool known as Tarot cards. Fire is represented in the card called Judgement. There are the Major Arcana and the Minor. Out of the Minor Arcana are four suits. Fire's suit is the wands. And per suit are the cards called the Court Cards. Fire's court cards are the knights also known as princes.

The zodiac signs also can relate to the elements. For fire there are three of them. Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.

The alchemical mineral for fire is called Sulfur and the metals for this element are Iron and Gold. Among all of these correspondences there are so much more. The archangel for fire is Michael but Michael isn't the only angel that represents fire, though the other one isn't an archangel this angel is called Aral.

The tree for the element of the south is known as the flowering almond tree. Even body parts can correspond with elements in this case it is our Liver.

Herbs, well this list can go on and on. Allspice, angelica, asafutida, basil, bay, laurel, beech, buttercup, carnation, cedar, cinnamon, clove, copal, resin and coriander. There are more than these though. A whole bunch. The others include Deer's Tongue, dill, dragon's blood, fennel, garlic, juniper, helliotrope, lime, marigold, mustard, nutmeg, red peppers, onion, orange, peppermint. And just when you think the list is finished it continues. Red Poppy, Rose, Geranium, Rosemary, Sassafras, Sunflower, tangerine, tobacco, woodruff.

Tools to be used for fire are wands, rod, swords, and candles.

And crystals that go along with fire are fire opal, fire agate, ruby, obsidian, tiger's eye, carnelian, garnet, amber.

Sabbats that correspond with this element include Samhain and Yule. Incenses that go along with fire are olibanum and copal. And the human element best known for this element is our life force.

Water

The element of water is of the direction of West. Water is considered to be a feminine element and the color best used for this element is Blue. Water is a sexually matured element represented in the tarot by the Hanged Man card, the cups suit and by the Queen cards. Animals of this element include sea serpents, dolphins, fish, seal, and sea birds.

There are three astrological signs that go along with this liquid element and those are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Just like Fire, Water also has a Alchemical Mineral it may relate to and that's Mercury. It's metal is silver. The archangel that goes along with Water is the Archangel Raphael. However once again there is another angel that goes with this element and that is the Angel Chassan.

As for body parts our heart and kidneys can correspond with this element. And the tree best used for this blue element is the Willow Tree.

Similar to Fire, Water has many herbs that go along with it. Apple Blossom, Chamomile, Camphor, Cardamom, Catnip, Cherry, Coconut, and cucumber. Along with these include eucalyptus, fern, gardenia, heather, licorice and lilac. But once again when you think I am done there are MORE. Lotus, melon, moss, mother wort, orris root, passion flower, seaweed, sandalwood, peach, rose, spearmint, sweet pea, thyme, tonka bean, violet, vanilla bean, water lily and ylang ylang are also herbs of this element.

The tools that are used for Water are the chalice and a bowl. Crystals that can be used with the element of water are topaz, sapphire, lapis lazuli, chalcedony, amethyst and citrine.

Sabbats that go along with Water are Lammas and Mabon. Incense that may be used is Myrrh. Water's human element are emotions.

Conclusion

These two aren't my favorite elements, they aren't the one that I connect with the most. I consider myself to be of the element Earth. However I am still interested in all four elements. I recently researched the elements further, hoping to learn more and boy did I ever. If it's possible I am even more interested in them and I hope you found this to be as interesting as I did while I did the research.

Wow, this is a lot of information to absorb and digest all in one swoop. Interesting though, as I found it to be. Hey, thanks for sharing this with us. I feel smarter somehow. : )

@Woodland Fae- I'd suggest reading Scott Cunningham- Earth Power and also Scott Cunningham- Earth, Air, Fire, Water for tons of folk elemental magick. You can try these and sculpt them a little for your book :)

@Crescent, another good hub. You have really put your work into finding the herbs and correspondences etc... Like usual it is a one stop resource for these elements.

I have a suggestion though. Why not add the elements in magick? for example fire with love and passion, and water with healing and empathy. And perhaps an invocation for circle casting? Also, if you are going to branch this into another large series like the crystals, did you know that faery witches substitute the element of spirit for moonlight? Unfortunately thats as far as my knowledge goes in terms of the moonlight element, so you'll have to research that one ;)

Thank you everyone.

Septembergirl, glad to know I left you feeling smarter.

Woodland Fae, I connect the most with the element of Earth. As it is also the one the goes along with my Zodiac sign.

Nasake, I did not know that they substitute the element spirit for moonlight. That is very interesting. I like that a lot actually. So I will have to do further research on that one. I should have added the elements in magick. I don't know why I didn't lol. I shall have to write another hub about that sometime.

I consider myself to have a lot of Earth and Air...my sun is in Virgo and my moon is in Aquarius, and my ascendant is Scorpio. However, most of my family is very watery, and all of my relationships have been with fire people. This is a cool hub, very interesting. I like that you combine a lot of different disciplines here.

Thank you stephaniedas. Me and my brother are of the earth for our sign is taurus. However I feel like my brother has more qualities of fire than earth.
