Aries In Greek Mythology

Ares may not be the most loved God of the Greeks but we cannot deny his name and he, just as any God and Goddess deserves to be written about. He's considered to be the Greek God of war, bloodlust, violence, manly courage and last but not least civil order. This God was feared greatly among the Greeks, many believed that he was a dangerous force. In ways this was the truth.

He's depicted in a couple different ways. One way is him as a young man who is in the nude and carries a helm and spear. The other way is Ares as a fully mature man with a beard is dressed in battle gear.

Ares is considered one of the twelve Olympian Gods and is the son of Zeus and Hera. Although Zeus is his father they did not get along all that well. At one point Zeus was said to have told Ares that he is the God that is most hateful to him.

Like many Gods Ares holds a few things very sacred to him. There are few animals as well as objects that he holds dear. Dogs, venomous snakes, alligators and even vultures were all held close to him. As for objects his golden armor and his bronze tipped spear.

Ares had many different affairs that resulted in many children. Like Ares they are not mentioned much in the Mythology. However is well known affair was with the Greek Goddess of love Aphrodite who was married to Hephaestus. Their union resulted in six children called Eros, Anteros, Phobos, Deimos, Hermonia and Adrestia.

Other consorts include Aerope and he had one child with her. Another one mentioned is Harmonia that resulted in the Amazons. The list goes on and on. He held several different affairs at one time, never really having anything serious with anyone.

He too took a side in the Trojan war. Unlike Artemis and Athena, Ares chose the wrong side, the loosing side. Which is truly interesting seeing how he himself was the God of war.

These flocks of birds were said to guard the Amazon's shrine of the God that was on a coastal Island located somewhere around the Black Sea.

Ares isn't one of my favorites out of the bunch of Gods. The idea of him is kind of terrifying. Someone who is so destructive. Yet there's always a part of me that enjoys researching him. He is truly an interesting God. There's no doubt about that.
